Clubs & Activities
We encourage our students to participate in intramurals (grade 1-grade 6) at recess and at lunch recess, choir (grade 3-grade 6), running club (grade 4-grade 6), and handbells (grade 5 and grade 6).
The mission of Kameyosek School is to ensure that all students achieve success in their studies and demonstrate ongoing growth in their character development. We believe this mission is being accomplished through the ongoing cooperation, commitment, communication and partnership in education between parents, students, staff and community members. The mission is being accomplished through exemplary staff performance, program diversity, measured student achievement of outcomes and cooperative decision making. At Kameyosek, we are a caring community working together to instill within children the desire to pursue excellence in all facets of their education. We believe that we provide quality education in a positive, safe and caring learning environment.
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year. As we begin the new school year I hope that you have had a wonderful summer break with lots of rest and opportunities to enjoy numerous activities with friends and family. Hopefully you participated in reading daily and did some writing in a journal about your adventures over the summer.
Students will use their agendas for regular communication between the family and the school. Please read the information included which will give you a better understanding of Kameyosek School. It is very important that you participate in the agenda use process with the children. Organizational skills are very important. Agendas allow teachers and parents an opportunity to work with their children to ensure that they understand this organizing lesson.
Together, as a team we form the Golden Triangle of Support for our children. As the base, parents and teachers offer a strong foundation to the children at the apex of the triangle. Our consistent effort to support the children’s endeavors, academically and socially throughout the year, will ensure optimum success for all.
The School and the Parent Council will work together to keep our Kameyosek Community in regular communication about the policies and directions we will be planning this year. Please join our team to make us stronger. Many hands make quick work of projects that can look overwhelming to a small group. Many diverse ideas allow us to consider all alternatives before we embark on our journeys.
Our Parent Council is very important because of all the activities they support and the assistance they provide to our school community on field trips both inside and outside the classroom. At Kameyosek each class participates in many field trips. Some activities take place in the school while others require vehicles to attend. Almost every trip we are in need of parent volunteers to meet the safety ratios for supervising and\or to assist in the facilitation of the skills being focused on which vary depending on the event.
The work of our Parent Council and the support they provide from the casino fundraiser and other activities has allowed our families to have first rate technology, numerous additional support resources for science, math, phys. ed, music and for our library and kindergarten rooms.
This year the Cogito program expands to grade three. The school will have 285 children this year and I would like to welcome our new families that will begin with us in September 2014.
If you have any questions, concerns or bouquets you wish to share with us please do not hesitate to contact the school at 780 462-8724. We can also be contacted through email at Kameyosek@epsb.ca. Our website is www.kameyosek.epsb.ca. Information from our student agenda book and monthly newsletters can be obtained from this site.
I am looking forward to another good year of working together with our parents to ensure the success of the children.
Lunch Room Information
Fees for 2015-2016:
Students are encouraged to go home for lunch when possible. It is not a District Policy or School Policy your child to stay at school for lunch. When your child stays at school for lunch, parents/guardians provide the lunch, including eating utensils (the school does not provide lunch or eating utensils as part of the monthly lunch room fee). The fees collected pay our lunch room supervisors-your child is supervised during the lunch hour whether they are indoors or outside. Please note, your child will go outside after eating their lunch unless the temperature is -23 Celsius or colder (District Policy) or unless it is raining (under these two weather conditions they remain indoors and are supervised indoors). Please ensure your child has the appropriate outdoor clothing.
The monthly lunch room fee is $25.00 per month per child and is due the first school day of each school month. The yearly fee is $225.00 per child if lunch room fees, for the year, are paid in full by September 30/15. Acceptable payments are cash or cheque-the office is not set up to accept payment by debit card or credit card. Please note, there is a charge back fee of $10.00 for an NSF cheque.
The occasional fee is $2.00 per day per child if your child needs to stay for lunch on a non-regular basis. Lunch, including eating utensils, is provided by the parents/guardians.
Microwaves are provided for our students to use during their lunch hour for quickly heating their food or to warm up last night's leftovers. Please do not send frozen meal entrees or noodle cups (cup of soup, Kraft dinner cups etc) or popcorn for your child's lunch-these items take too long to heat.
